I had been thinking about
creating a Lambretta with the Ancillotti tuning kit for long time, so a
few years ago I started collecting the bits to do one up. Barrel, piston,
big bore exhaust system, seat, slowly came to light together with a Dell'Orto
SS carb and a new old stock Innocenti cranck that had been completely polished
and never used a long time ago. In the meanwhile also I had found the enormous
Jaeger mechanical tacho that had been used originally on an Ancillotti
tuned Lambretta by a florentine customer of theirs. Found in the Florence
area a Lambretta on a Florence numberplate - it could not be anything different
- I started the resto of the bike. This is not a replica or an original
Ancillotti scooter; this is a Lambretta to show the love for their dedication
and creativity in the Italian tuning history.
The side panels are LI
type because in my merry travels I had found a set of panels with the exact
scheme you see re-created here; the dollar symbol (nickname for Piero Ancillotti)
in the middle of the racing oval.
The restoration has been
carried out during the winter 2007 and in spring the Lambretta has been
first on the road with flowers on the peaches. The engine sounds of old
tuning style, the baffle-less 48 mil exhaust provides a very loud metallic
sound, together with the noise of the opened SS carb, takes you back to
illegal races in partially built motorways in the mid 60s, with rows of
persons witnessing who would have won that week.... |
